Patrick Swayze Memorial

Following the tragic death of actor Patrick Swayze to pancreatic cancer, questions came pouring in to Lake Lure and the Blue Ridge Foothills from media and fans of the Dirty Dancing star.  In response to public requests, the TDA worked with Lake Lure area community leaders and volunteers and on the Saturday following his death held a memorial service at Firefly Cove development, former boy’s camp and home of several key Dirty Dancing scenes. $1,600 was raised for pancreatic cancer research, and the story of the memorial was covered worldwide.
